Lee “Scratch” Perry drops a second single Let It Rain from forthcoming album Rainford, with accompanying music video.
This video, made by artist and musician Peter Harris and animator Llyr Williams, uses both new drawings made specifically for the film and existing drawings taken from the ongoing collaborative series Harris has been making with Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry called The Higher Powers Bible – From Genesis to Revelation.
The video is split into two sections representing heaven and hell. The heaven section includes the disparate spiritual influences of Perry as they appear in the song – Jah, Haile Selassie and Marcus Garvey – alongside Harris’s artistic heroes – Van Gogh, Francis Bacon, James Brown etc. The hell section is an Old Testament vision of fire, blood and brimstone with righteous judgement being exacted on wicked bankers, presidents and prime ministers. Evil slave masters with the faces of money whip the oppressed poor and middle classes, and force feed them a diet of fast food, iPads, cars and mortgages.
As Perry says: “Some people don’t believe in the Bible, but I believe in it because I live in the Bible”.
