Singers & Players were the first mutation of a loose reggae collective of 15 to 20 vocalists, musicians & DJ’s to form the core of Adrian Sherwood’s On-U Sound label.
A colourful bunch of Punks and Rastas, Rebels, Rockers, Instrumentalists and Experimentalists. All of them could also be members of other groups like Dub Syndicate, Creation Rebel, African Headcharge , New Age Steppers etc.
Memorable Singers & Players were Prince Far I, Bim Sherman, Mikey Dread, Style Scott, Keith Levene, Bruce Smith, Jah Woosh, Deadly Headley, Ari-Up & Congo Ashanti Roy.
There was never any fixed line-up to the group, and many different artists featured on each track and each album.
They recorded five albums between 1981 and 1988 and were regarded as a dub supergroup.
